Dr. Jessica McKenney
Dr. McKenney graduated from Iowa State Veterinary College in 2002. She has settled in Colorado Springs after having worked several years in Washington State. She is our ultrasound expert. She enjoys hiking in our beautiful mountains with her children Sean and Olivia and her husband Todd. She has a wire haired dachshund named Harper and a very active kitty named Rose.
Dr. Alison Bizzul
Dr. Bizzul grew up in Longmont, CO and completed her undergraduate studies at Colorado State University. She moved to Illinois to complete her veterinary education at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. After graduating, Dr. Bizzul practiced for several years in Arizona before moving back closer to home here in the Springs. Dr. Bizzul’s professional interests include behavior and pain management. When not in the clinic, she enjoys hiking and traveling with her husband, Royce, and two dogs, Sport and Maddie.
Dr. Emily Teepe
Dr. Teepe graduated from the University of Missouri in 2014. She grew up on a small farm with a menagerie of animals. She enjoys all aspects of the outdoors including hiking, tennis, horseback riding, and traveling. She is thrilled to call Colorado Springs home and looks forward to meeting you and your pet!
Dr. Rachael Thielmann
Dr. Rachael Thielmann is a three-time graduate of Texas A&M University with a Bachelors in Biomedical Science, Masters of Business Administration, and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. She recently moved from Texas to Colorado Springs where her husband serves in the Air Force. Her professional interests include preventative care, dentistry, and diagnostic imaging. Outside of work, Dr. Thielmann enjoys riding western performance horses, running, and competing in triathlons. She and her husband share their home with their Shetland Sheepdog, Wylie, and their cat, Tiger.
Dr. Katelyn Schermerhorn-Dart
Dr. Schermerhorn received her Bachelors degree in Microbiology from Michigan State University in 2012 and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University in 2016. Her favorite aspects of veterinary medicine are diagnostic imaging and endocrine diseases. She recently got married and absolutely loves sharing the great outdoors with her husband, Jacob. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, cycling, running, skiing, and triathlons. She has a black lab mixed breed dog, named Luckie and a black cat, named Luna.
Dr. Sarah Leyman
Dr. Leyman grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio before receiving a bachelor’s degree in biology from Amherst College in western Massachusetts. She graduated with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2016 from The Ohio State University. She then practiced in New Jersey for two years. including a year-long rotating small animal internship at a specialty hospital, before she and her husband moved to Colorado Springs. Her professional interests include preventive care, surgery, ophthalmology and exotic pet medicine. She has three cats, named PBJ, Sookie and Flea. In their free time, she and her husband love to travel and spend time outside hiking, biking, camping and skiing.

Cheri graduated from Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology in 2001 and has a special interest in canine behavior. She shares her life with an Australian Cattle Dog, two Border Collies, and a cat. When not training and competing in agility and herding, Cheri enjoys hiking with her dogs.
Tara is also a graduate from Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology. She has Buddy the Pug, two cats named Touchdown, and Cowboy and a bearded dragon Lizzy. When Tara isn’t taking care of animals at work, she enjoys playing softball, watching the Broncos and other activities with her family.
Karen is a graduate from Colorado State University and a graduate from Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology. She has worked with Dr. McKenney since 2003. She is also the office manager here at High Plains. Karen has managed such companies as the Victorian Cafe Company, Kay Bee Toys and Hertz Rental Cars before changing careers to become a technician. Karen loves working with geriatric animals and has several older pets at home. Currently she has four dogs, a rabbit and two cats. Karen is married and she is very proud of her children, Kailyn and Matthew.
Angel graduated from Cosumnes River College in 1991 with an Associate in Science degree. She shares her home three orange cats, Douglas, Frank and Stanley. When Angel is not at work taking care of animals, she volunteers her time giving mentally, physically, and emotionally challenged children therapeutic riding lessons.
Meghann is a Veterinary Technician, who graduated from Colorado Mtn. College in 2000 with an associate of Applied Science degree. She has worked in the Veterinary field for 14 years and still loves every moment. She enjoys hiking, riding horses, and spending time with her husband, her son, Jase and her friends. She has two dogs, a cat and a horse for companions.
Allyson graduated from San Juan College with an associate degree in Applied Science. She has been working as a Veterinary Technician in Colorado Springs for 10 years. Allyson loves her job and finds it very rewarding! She has a big black loveable dog named Zeke and a French Bulldog named Levi. She enjoys spending time with her husband and her children, Kyle and Shyla.
Jaime is a graduate from the PIMA Medical Institute’s Veterinary Technician program. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in addition to an Associate degree of Applied Science. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two boys, Axel and Schrade. Jaime and her family share a love for all animals which is helpful when it comes to spoiling their two standard poodles, four cats and a rabbit.
Nicole is a certified veterinary technician who graduated from Bel-Rea Institute of Veterinary Technology in 2016. She loves spending time with her dog, a Chocolate lab/Corgi mix named Maya. In her spare time she enjoys hiking, skiing, and reading.

Nancy has been with High Plains since the summer of 2008. She has four children, one grandchild, two dogs, Mason and Kiki, and a cockatiel named Rocket. She also works part time as a Real Estate Agent. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, ATV riding, and hanging out with her family.
Dana has bred and handled National and International champion AKC Greyhounds. She currently has 5 Greyhounds- Vanessa, Kia, DeeDee and Andy. Her new addition to the family is Iraina, she traveled from Moscow. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking with her husband and spending time with her pets.
Jamie has been in the animal field for over twenty years. While living abroad in Stuttgart Germany, she utilized her time by volunteering with the American Red Cross. She worked two years at the Stuttgart Veterinary Clinic, located on Panazer Kaserne, where she received training as a veterinary technician. She currently is pursuing her certification. In her spare time she loves hiking, any outdoor activities and spending time with her three dogs, two cats and her husband.
Dusty grew up on a rural farm south of Omaha, Nebraska. She had a love for animals at an early age. Her childhood years were spent traveling to Regional Paint Horse shows with top Paint horses and showed professionally for 20 years. She loves the outdoors and enjoys spending time with my three Horses~ Jet, Jasper and Sissy. She has an Australian shepherd named Bear.
Kevin joined HPVH in February 2015 after spending 20+ years in the dental field. She has one daughter, three grandchildren and one dog, KC. She is a lifelong resident of Colorado Springs. In her free time, she enjoys traveling with her husband, Chip.
Jami joined High Plains in January of 2017. She is a native of Arkansas and moved to Colorado Springs in 2013. She and her husband, Jeff, have two boys, Lane and Luke. They also have two dogs, Jersey and Ruger. Jami and her husband enjoy discovering our beautiful state on their motorcycle or hiking with their boys.
Cara started working at High Plains in the summer of 2016. She is currently studying radiology at Pikes Peak Community College, and eventually ultrasound. In her free time Cara enjoys hiking and reading.
Meet Birdie, our clinic cat. You may not see her in the lobby, but she is an integral part of the High Plains family group. She enjoys jumping into empty boxes, sleeping in the pharmacy and making the staff laugh at her antics.
