Dr. Jessica McKenney
Dr. McKenney graduated from Iowa State Veterinary College in 2002. She has settled in Colorado Springs after having worked several years in Washington State. She is our ultrasound expert. She enjoys hiking in our beautiful mountains with her children Sean and Olivia and her husband Todd. She has a wire-haired dachshund named Harper and a very active kitty named Rose.
Dr. Alison Bizzul
Dr. Bizzul grew up in Longmont, CO and completed her undergraduate studies at Colorado State University. She moved to Illinois to complete her veterinary education at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. After graduating, Dr. Bizzul practiced for several years in Arizona before moving back closer to home here in the Springs. Dr. Bizzul’s professional interests include behavior and pain management. When not in the clinic, she enjoys hiking and traveling with her husband, Royce, and two dogs, Sport, and Maddie.
Dr. Emily Teepe
Dr. Teepe graduated from the University of Missouri in 2014. She grew up on a small farm with a menagerie of animals. She enjoys all aspects of the outdoors including hiking, tennis, horseback riding, and traveling. She is thrilled to call Colorado Springs home and looks forward to meeting you and your pet!
Dr. Katelyn Dart
Dr. Schermerhorn received her Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology from Michigan State University in 2012 and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University in 2016. Her favorite aspects of veterinary medicine are diagnostic imaging and endocrine diseases. She recently got married and absolutely loves sharing the great outdoors with her husband, Jacob. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, cycling, running, skiing, and triathlons. She has a black lab mixed breed dog, named Luckie and a black cat, named Luna.
Dr. Katharine Kennedy
Dr. Kat Kennedy grew up in El Paso, Texas and graduated from Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa, NC, earning a Bachelor of Science with honors. She continued on to complete her veterinary degree at Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine. Kat worked as an emergency veterinarian for two years in San Antonio, TX then as a general practitioner for five years in Austin, TX. After taking a sabbatical to travel the western United States in her campervan Kat settled in Colorado Springs and is excited to make the city, and High Plains Veterinary Hospital, her new home.
Dr. Lindsey Moore
Dr. Moore returns to High Plains Veterinary Clinic after 3 years in Maui, Hawaii. She graduated from Washington State University in 2008. Her veterinary medicine interests include dentistry, surgery and geriatric animal care. When not working, she spends her time with her 3 daughters and husband.
Dr. Ashlee Bruewer

Karen is a graduate from Colorado State University and a graduate from Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology. She has worked with Dr. McKenney since 2003. She is also the hospital manager here at High Plains. Karen has managed such companies as the Victorian Cafe Company, Kay-Bee Toys, and Hertz Rental Cars before changing careers to become a technician. Karen loves working with geriatric animals and has several older pets at home. Currently, she has two dogs, a rabbit, and one cats. Karen is married and she is very proud of her children, Kailyn and Matthew.

There are many friendly faces here at the High Plains Veterinary Clinic family who are dedicated to making sure you and your pets are given the best care possible in the Colorado Springs Veterinary market.
Cheri graduated from Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology in 2001 and has a special interest in canine behavior. She shares her life with an Australian Cattle Dog, two Border Collies, and a cat. When not training and competing in agility and herding, Cheri enjoys hiking with her dogs.
Tara is also a graduate from Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology. She has Buddy the Pug, two cats named Touchdown, and Cowboy and a bearded dragon Lizzy. When Tara isn’t taking care of animals at work, she enjoys playing softball, watching the Broncos and other activities with her family.
Angel graduated from Cosumnes River College in 1991 with an Associate in Science degree. She shares her home three orange cats, Douglas, Frank and Stanley. When Angel is not at work taking care of animals, she volunteers her time giving mentally, physically, and emotionally challenged children therapeutic riding lessons.
Allyson graduated from San Juan College with an associate degree in Applied Science. She has been working as a Veterinary Technician in Colorado Springs for 10 years. Allyson loves her job and finds it very rewarding! She has a big black loveable dog named Zeke and a French Bulldog named Levi. She enjoys spending time with her husband and her children, Kyle and Shyla.
Nicole is a certified veterinary technician who graduated from Bel-Rea Institute of Veterinary Technology in 2016. She loves spending time with her dog, a Chocolate lab/Corgi mix named Maya. In her spare time she enjoys hiking, skiing, and reading.
Andre is a veterinary technician that has been in the veterinary field for 20 years. In his spare time, he loves to involve himself in missions work. He is very passionate about playing the piano and spending time with his adorable golden retriever named Max.
Tori is a certified veterinary technician who graduated from PIMA Medical Institute in 2017. She is a mom to a beautiful baby girl, two pit bulls, and four cats. She joined the High Plains team after years working in veterinary emergency medicine. In her spare time, she likes hiking with her dogs and playing Pokémon Go.
Megan is a certified veterinary technician who graduated from PIMA Medical Institute in 2018. She enjoys spending her time with her husband, her two children, two dogs, and two cats. She enjoys hiking, reading, and painting in her spare time.

Cheyenne is a veterinary technician who graduated from Colorado Academy of Veterinary Technology in 2017. She enjoys spending time with her family and two dogs: Oscar the dachshund and Lance the chihuahua. In her spare time, she enjoys being outdoors, going to the shooting range and watching movies.

Client Care Specialists
Nancy has been with High Plains since the summer of 2008. She has four children, one grandchild, two dogs, Mason and Kiki, and a cockatiel named Rocket. She also works part time as a Real Estate Agent. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, ATV riding, and hanging out with her family.
Jamie has been in the animal field for over twenty years. While living abroad in Stuttgart Germany, she utilized her time by volunteering with the American Red Cross. She worked two years at the Stuttgart Veterinary Clinic, located on Panazer Kaserne, where she received training as a veterinary technician. She currently is pursuing her certification. In her spare time, she loves hiking, any outdoor activities and spending time with her three dogs, two cats, and her husband.
Dusty grew up on a rural farm south of Omaha, Nebraska. She had a love for animals at an early age. Her childhood years were spent traveling to Regional Paint Horse shows with top Paint horses and showed professionally for 20 years. She loves the outdoors and enjoys spending time with my three Horses~ Jet, Jasper and Sissy. She has an Australian shepherd named Bear.
Jami joined High Plains in January of 2017. She is a native of Arkansas and moved to Colorado Springs in 2013. She and her husband, Jeff, have two boys, Lane and Luke. They also have two dogs, Jersey and Ruger. Jami and her husband enjoy discovering our beautiful state on their motorcycle or hiking with their boys.
Nicki has been apart of the High Plains team since 2018. She is currently going to school for Criminal Justice in hopes to work for CSPD. She has two dogs, Oakley and Maya. And she also has one cat, Jack. Her favorite thing to do is to go on Jeep rides in the mountains with her boyfriend, Brett.

Our Clinic Cat
Meet Birdie, our clinic cat. You may not see her in the lobby, but she is an integral part of the High Plains family group. She enjoys jumping into empty boxes, sleeping in the pharmacy and making the staff laugh at her antics.
