Dr. Becker is a Nebraska native. She got her B.S. in Veterinary Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and received her D.V.M. from Kansas State University. After working for a year in private practice, she opted to get more advanced training by completing a small animal rotating internship at the Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital in Akron, OH. During her internship she acquired her love for emergency and critical care medicine and upon its completion she followed her dream to live and work in Colorado, where she worked as an emergency veterinarian for 13 years. Dr. Becker is enjoying her transition to the world of daytime general practice and the impact that she is able to have on patients in promoting their health and wellness as well as forming close relationships with the High Plains Veterinary Hospital clientele.
Outside of work she can be found hiking the mountains with her dogs Mercy and Calvin, running, snowboarding, or the occasional cross fit. She also enjoys creating her own special home-brewed beer, whose label gets its namesake from her (naughty) heeler: “Bad Calvin Beer.” She is also actively involved in the local and state veterinary disaster response teams and owns a small business, Animal Emergency Medical Training, that provides small animal first aid and CPR training to firefighters, first responders, police K9 units, and search and rescue teams.
